Money and transfers
Полезная информация, инструкции и советы для трудовых мигрантов в России.
Sending money home is one of the main tasks of a migrant. Earning money in Russia is half the job; the important part is transferring money to the family safely and with the lowest commission. In 2026, sanctions and restrictions have changed the transfer market — let’s look at how to transfer money now.
Important: since 2022, many foreign transfer systems (Western Union, MoneyGram) have left Russia. However, working alternatives remain — through banks, cryptocurrencies and special services.
Money transfer methods
| Method | Speed | Commission | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sberbank → CIS bank | 1–3 days | 1–2% | Works in UZ, TJ, KY |
| Golden Crown | 15 minutes | 1–2% | Wide network in CIS |
| Unistream | 15–60 minutes | 1–3% | Works in UZ, TJ, KY |
| Contact | 1 hour | 1–2% | Through partner banks |
| Cryptocurrency (USDT) | 5–30 minutes | 0.5–2% | Wallet and exchange needed |
| Through acquaintances | 1–7 days | 0–2% | Risk of losing money |
Bank transfers
The most reliable method — through a bank. Works if you have a Russian bank card and an account in a bank in the recipient’s country.
How to transfer through Sberbank
- Open the Sberbank Online app;
- “Transfers” section → “Abroad”;
- Select the country — Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan;
- Enter the recipient’s details (card, account, phone);
- Enter the amount and confirm.
Commission: 1% of the amount (minimum 50 ₽, maximum 1,000 ₽).
Term: 1–3 working days.
Limit: up to 5,000,000 ₽ per month (for Russian citizens), for foreigners — inquire.
Transfer through VTB, Tinkoff (T-Bank)
Same as Sberbank. Commission — 1–2%. Term — 1–3 days.
Money transfer systems
Faster than banks — from 15 minutes. Commission — 1–2%.
Golden Crown
The most popular system in the CIS. Works with Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan.
How to send:
- Find a Golden Crown point (through the website);
- Bring your passport and money;
- Fill out the form — recipient’s details;
- Pay — in cash or by card;
- Tell the recipient the code — they will receive the money at their branch.
Commission: 1% of the amount.
Limit: up to 100,000 ₽ per transfer (for individuals).
Unistream
Works through partner banks. Commission — 1–3%. Term — 15–60 minutes.
Contact
Works through banks. Commission — 1–2%. Term — up to 1 hour.
Cryptocurrency — alternative
USDT (Tether) is the most popular transfer method in 2026. Works without borders, without banks.
How to transfer via USDT:
- Buy USDT for rubles — via P2P (on Binance, Bybit) or an exchanger;
- Send USDT to the recipient’s wallet (Binance, Trust Wallet);
- The recipient sells USDT for local currency — P2P exchanges work in UZ, TJ, KY;
- Money in hand — within 30–60 minutes.
Commission: 0.5–2% (depending on the network).
Risks: you need cryptocurrency skills. P2P fraud is rare, but possible.
Through acquaintances — risky
Many migrants transfer money through acquaintances who are going home. This is risky:
- Loss of money — the acquaintance may not deliver;
- Delay — money may be “stuck” for weeks;
- No evidence — you cannot prove the transfer;
- Legal problems — large amounts without documents — suspicious.
We do not recommend this method, except for small amounts.
How to transfer cheaper
1. Compare commissions
Different systems — different commissions. Check before each transfer.
2. Send larger amounts less often
1 transfer for 50,000 ₽ is cheaper than 5 transfers for 10,000 ₽.
3. Use P2P exchangers
The rate in P2P is often more favorable than in banks. But check the exchanger’s reputation.
4. Consider the exchange rate
The exchange rate is more important than the commission. Compare both parameters.
Taxes and transfers
Transfers home are not subject to NDFL if they are:
- Help for family;
- Transfers to relatives;
- Regular personal transfers.
Restrictions and sanctions
In 2026 the following restrictions apply:
- SWIFT — many Russian banks are disconnected from the system. Transfers go through partner banks;
- Limits on currency export — up to $10,000 in cash when leaving;
- Control of large transfers — amounts over 600,000 ₽ may be checked;
- Sanctions against some banks — cards do not work abroad.
