Article 408. Termination of the obligation to perform

2. The creditor shall, upon acceptance of the performance, at the request of the debtor, issue to it a receipt in receipt of the performance in whole or in the relevant part. If the debtor has issued a debt certificate to the creditor, the creditor must return the document upon enforcement and, if it is impossible to return, indicate it in the document issued. The receipt may be replaced by an inscription on the refundable debt document and the debtor ' s possession of the debt document shall, until proven otherwise, certify the termination of the obligation. The creditor ' s order to issue a receipt, return the debt document or note in the receipt that the debtor cannot return it is entitled to delay performance, in which case the creditor is considered to be in arrears.
