Article 1156: Transfer of right of inheritance (inheritory transmission)

1. If the heir, who is to inherit by will or by law, dies after the opening of the inheritance before accepting it within the prescribed time limit, the right to accept the inheritance due to him or her and to his heirs by law, and if all the estates have been bequeathed, to his heirs by will, the right to inherit by inheritance. 2. The right to inherit from the deceased heir may be exercised by his heirs. If the portion of the period left after the death of the heir is less than three months, it shall be extended to three months. The heirs of the deceased heir may be recognized by the court as having taken the inheritance in accordance with article 1155 of the present Code if the court finds respectable. 3. The right of the heir to accept part of the inheritance as a compulsory share (art. 1149) does not pass to his heirs.
