Article 85: Pardon

1. Pardons shall be granted by the President of the Russian Federation in respect of an individual. 2. By an act of pardon, a person convicted of a crime may be released from further proceedings. The sentence may be reduced or commuted to a lighter penalty; a person who has served a sentence may be acquitted by pardon.
